What is the Melmak LIPUS Device?
The Melmak device uses Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) technology to support bone healing. LIPUS works by sending gentle ultrasound waves through the skin to the fracture site, where they stimulate the bone’s natural healing response.
Treatment takes just 20 minutes a day. Once you position the device and press start, it does the work. There is no pain, no needles, and no need for clinic visits.

Renting works well for patients recovering from an acute fracture with a defined healing timeline. Rental is often covered by insurance, and our team can help you confirm your coverage before you get started.

Purchasing the Melmak device
Purchasing may suit you if you have a delayed or non-union fracture, a condition that affects bone healing, or if you prefer long-term access to the device. Some insurance plans reimburse purchase costs. Canada Life reimburses up to $5,400, while Sun Life and Empire Life cap at $3,000. Reimbursement limits are subject to change. Dealing with a fracture that won’t heal?
About 10% of fractures do not heal as expected. When a fracture fails to heal within the normal timeframe, it is known as a delayed union. When it shows no signs of healing after several months, it is referred to as a non-union fracture.
Non-union fractures can happen for a number of reasons. Poor blood supply, infection, bone loss, and certain health conditions can all affect the body’s ability to repair itself.

What do the studies show?
Studies using commercially available LIPUS devices have shown that, on average, fresh fractures will heal 38% faster than fractures that have not been treated with ultrasound.
This is dependent on the type and location of the fracture. LIPUS has proven to heal non-union fractures by 86%.
